Who this policy covers
Legal Beagle is used by law firms and attorneys ("firms") to collect, organize, and draft documents on behalf of their own clients. If you're a firm's client uploading documents through a portal or a collection link, the firm that sent you here is the one responsible for your matter and your data — we process your documents on their behalf, not as an independent party. If you have a question about your own documents or your case, contact your attorney directly.
What we collect
- Firm and attorney account information — name, email, and billing contact details provided at signup.
- Client documents and information submitted through the portal, a per-matter collection link, email intake, or SMS, for the specific matter they relate to.
- Matter and case metadata needed to track what's outstanding and drafted for a given matter.
- Basic technical information (such as IP address and browser) logged for security and troubleshooting purposes.
How we use it
Information is used solely to provide the service: collecting and reconciling client documents, and drafting practice-area summaries for attorney review. We do not sell client or firm information, and we do not use client documents to train any third-party AI model — see our Security page for how document processing is actually handled.
Document processing and AI
Document extraction and analysis runs on our own dedicated infrastructure. No document you or a firm's client uploads is sent to a public or hosted AI vendor for processing. Full detail is on the Security page.
Retention and deletion
We retain matter documents and account information for as long as an account remains active, plus a reasonable period afterward for legal and operational purposes. A firm or a firm's client can request deletion by contacting us; [specific retention periods and the deletion process are still being finalized and will be documented here before this policy is treated as final].
Third parties (subprocessors)
As of this page's last-updated date, your documents are not sent to any third-party vendor at all: uploaded documents are stored on infrastructure we run ourselves, and document extraction runs on our own dedicated infrastructure (see Security) — not a hosted storage or AI vendor. Email delivery and SMS delivery are not yet wired to a live third-party provider in production; when we turn either on, this section will name the specific provider before it goes live, not after.
We use Umami, a cookieless analytics service, to understand aggregate traffic to this marketing site — page views and referrers, not individual visitor tracking. Umami doesn't use cookies, doesn't build cross-site profiles, and isn't used on the parts of the product where firms and clients manage actual case documents. It is currently the only third-party service in our stack that touches any data related to this site.
Your rights
If you're a firm using Legal Beagle directly, you can request access to or deletion of your account information at any time by contacting us. If you're the client of one of our firm customers, your rights regarding your own documents run through your attorney's relationship with you, not directly through us — but we'll always work with your firm to honor a legitimate request.
